The ANC Brief: Medals and standouts

It’s the third day of the 30th SEA Games today and the Philippines looks to continue its medal harvest. Here are the big stories making the headlines on ANC today:

It has only been two days of competitions in the Southeast Asian Games and the Philippines has already surpassed its 2017 SEA Games gold medal haul. Standouts include weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz who earned her first SEA Games weightlifting gold in dominant fashion to add to the Olympic silver medal she won in 2016.

Hunkering down
Poised to dampen the spirit of the Games is Typhoon Tisoy which is making its way to the Luzon island from the Pacific. As of this writing, storm signal number 3 has been raised over Quezon province. The eye of the weather system is posed to make landfall in the Albay and Sorsogon area and is sure to bring heavy rains.

Airports take precaution
Due to Typhoon Tisoy, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) saw it fit to close all four of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) terminals. More than 400 flights will be affected by the closure from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Tuesday.

For validation
The Palace said reports of a Chinese airship above Mischief or Panganiban Reef in the West Philippine Sea are being validated by the country’s security apparatus. Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said he would defer any comments on the matter to Foreign Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr.

World domination
Jollibee was already huge at the start of 2010, but it grew exponentially since then, gobbling up brands all over the world. And, while the next decade might be tricky for Tony Tan Caktiong's food empire, ANCX knows it isn't wise to bet against the 'Bee.
