New US Ambassador to the Philippines Sung Kim on Saturday said he has had a very productive first few days in Manila, saying the timing of his arrival was perfect.
Since arriving on Thursday night, Kim has already had a full day of meetings and was even able to watch Game 1 of the UAAP basketball finals, which he said he enjoyed.
"I just arrived in Manila 48 hours ago and my timing was perfect," Kim said during a short speech at the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) YOUnified event in Manila.
The Korean-born ambassador even tweeted how he loved the basketball spirit of Filipinos.
“Watched Game 1 of UAAP finals between ADMU and DLSU and loved the basketball spirit of Filipinos!” he said in a tweet.
Kim, meanwhile, also praised the YSEALI program. He said US President Barack Obama is a “huge fan” of the program as well.
In his arrival speech at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Thursday night, Kim said that he had long been wanted to be posted in Manila given America’s most important" relationship with the Philippines.
Kim, however, declined to comment on the recent bombing attempt at the US embassy.
