Duterte leads lighting of Palace tree, announces bonus for Office of the President employees

MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday night led the lighting of the Malacañang Christmas tree at the Palace grounds. 

The tree, which is 40 feet long and measures 18 feet in diameter at its base, is decorated with 1,393 pieces of Christmas balls, 1,235 pieces of LED bulbs, and 1,235 pieces of ornamental white, blue and red stars.

“As we light the Christmas tree, it is my ardent hope that it will serve as a reminder for everyone that we continue to light the lives of others,” Duterte said in his speech.

During the program, the President also announced the giving of the P60,000 Christmas bonus for the employees of the Office of the President, to the delight of the government workers present.
