MANILA - Samar Governor Milagrosa Tee Tan died in hospital Saturday, her daughter said. She was 61.
Samar 2nd District Rep. Sharee Ann Tan said she and her siblings Angel, Stephen James "Jimboy," and Michael were with their mother when she expired at St. Luke's Medical Center in Taguig. The immediate cause of death was cardiac arrest.
The governor's remains will be flown to Samar once weather conditions improve, the lawmaker said in a Facebook post.
"Let us all pray for the eternal repose of her soul," she said.
In March, the late public official was convicted of graft for the purchase of P16.1 million in emergency supplies without public bidding during her first term as governor in 2001.
The anti-graft court's 1st Division, however, acquitted her of 8 graft and 5 malversation cases involving allegedly overpriced medical and dental supplies worth P69 million in 2007.
