MANILA - San Miguel Corp. on Sunday opened 5 lanes on the Skyway to ease traffic congestion in the Alabang area.
The firm opened 3 lanes along the Skyway at-grade northbound and a new 2-lane ramp connecting the Alabang viaduct to the elevated highway.
The P10-billion Skyway extension, scheduled for completion in December next year, will extend the elevated highway to the SLEX near Susana Heights and the Muntinlupa-Cavite Expressway from Alabang.
The construction has aggravated traffic conditions along the SLEX, with travel time from areas south of Metro Manila now taking 3 to 5 hours, prompting SMC president Ramon Ang to apologize.
Lawmakers have proposed to reduce or suspend toll rates due to road conditions.
More details to follow.
