Hundreds attend burial of police killed in drug ops

AGUSAN DEL SUR- Hundreds attended the interment of a police officer who died while serving a search warrant on a drug suspect.

Police Inspector Inocentes Aclan was buried at San Lorenzo Memorial Gardens in San Francisco, Agusan del Sur on Thursday morning.

Aclan is the first police in the Caraga region to die in the line of duty since the Duterte administration waged its war on drugs.

Hundreds joined to witness the burial with some bringing placards condemning drug abuses.

Aclan was killed while serving a search warrant on Ronnie Fancobila who fired at authorities from the second floor of his residence using an M16 assault rifle.

Fancobila was also killed in the police operation.

During clearing operation, police seized an M-16 rifle, a caliber .45 pistol, a caliber .22 pistol; several magazines and ammunition, drug paraphernalia and 18 grams of suspected "shabu" with an estimated value of more than P200,000.

"He had his gears on. His helmet and vest but he got hit. Maybe it was really his time," Superintendent Joseph Plaza of Agusan del Norte Police Provincial Office said.

Aclan was a member of the Agusan del Police Provincial Intelligence Branch.

Police Regional Office 13 Director Chief Superintendent Rolando Felix personally handed the flag to the grieving wife of Aclan who was left in tears during the burial ceremony.

"Dios ko, karon flag na lang ako!" Aclan cried while receiving the flag.

(Oh God, now all that I have is a flag!)

Police fired a 21-gun salute to honor Aclan before his body was laid to rest.
