A special investigation task group has been formed by the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office to look into the killings of two human rights workers in the city of Bayawan.
Senior Supt. Edwin Portento, director of NOPPO, said the attack against Elisa Badayos and Elioterio Moises may have been linked to land disputes.
Badayos was the Central Visayas coordinator of the human rights group Karapatan. Moises was a barangay tanod and also a member of local peasant organization Mantapi Ebwan Farmers Association.
They were part of a 30-member fact-finding mission tasked to investigate reports of human rights violations against farmers.
The victims were shot dead by unidentified men in Sitio San Ramon, Barangay Poblacion Tuesday afternoon.
