SULU – Three Abu Sayyaf bandits were killed in a clash with government troops in Capual Island in Omar, Sulu on Monday afternoon, the Western Mindanao Command said.

"The successful military operation was a result of the cooperation of the people of Sulu in our campaign against the ASG [Abu Sayyaf Group] and their evil deeds,” said Col. Jesus Manangquil, newly installed commander of the Joint Task Force Sulu.

The soldiers from the 11th Scout Ranger Company and Scout Ranger CI-198 encountered about 30 ASG bandits. The clash lasted for about 25 minutes.

A body of a slain ASG member was taken from the scene while locals said that other bandits carried with them two cadavers.

Several others were allegedly wounded in the clash.

Troops were able to take three pump boats, one Garand rifle, ammunition, a solar panel, motor vehicle battery, improvised explosive device components, and documents.

The pump boats were turned over to the Naval Task Group Sulu for proper disposition.

"We will not stop until the scourge of the ASG will be finally put to a complete stop. We will prevail as we have a reinvigorated cooperation of the people of Sulu who are suffering due to the existence of these barbaric bandits," Manangquil added.
