A 61-year-old man drowned while swimming in the seaside town of Burgos, Ilocos Norte Wednesday morning.

Police identified the fatality as Rolly Tolentino, a resident of Barangay Bobon.

The victim's wife, Jenny Tolentino, said her husband and relatives went swimming in the beach park when the tragedy happened.

She said their son, Richard Tolentino, noticed his father missing. He tried to search for him and later found his floating body.

“Bakit wala na si Papa, hindi ko na siya makita, sabi niya. Kaya agad niyang tinignan at ni-rescue. Noong makita niya ito at sagipin, wala na, mahina na itsura," the victim's wife said.

Richard immediately applied first aid and brought his father to the nearest hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police revealed that prior to the incident, the victim together with his companions were having a drinking session by the shore.

Jenny believes that her husband suffered a heart attack before eventually drowning.

“Ang sabi ng doktor, parang naatake. Siguro, hindi na niya kinaya kaya nalunod na,” she said.

Authorities reminded the public to limit their alcohol intake before or during swimming. They likewise urged extra precaution for individuals who don't know how to swim and also for those who have heart problems.
