The barangay chairman of Ermita in Liloan, Cebu was shot dead by unidentified motorcycle-riding assailants Thursday.

A barangay chairman was shot dead Thursday in Liloan, Cebu.

The victim was identified as Ermita Barangay chairman Felicisimo "Imok" Rupinta.

SPO2 Andrew Rellanos of Lilo-an Police said two assailants on separate motorcycles shot Rupinta, who was on his way home to San Vicente, Liloan at 8:15 p.m.

A witness said the two motorcycles followed and surrounded Rupinta's vehicle from each side.

Rellanos said the barangay chief was with a woman named Jocelyn Mendoza, whose relationship with Rupinta has not yet been established.

Rupinta was rushed to Mendero Medical Center in Consolacion town but was declared dead at 9:33 p.m.

The barangay chairman became controversial in Cebu City due to his campaign wherein drug-free homes are labeled with stickers.

Rupinta was suspended after failing to provide the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency with a list of drug personalities in his barangay last year.
