MANILA - A civilian informant on Thursday received a P1-million reward for leading authorities to the arrest of Senator Leila de Lima's former driver, whom President Rodrigo Duterte had linked to the illegal drug trade.

The money, which was contained in a black portable safe, was handed over to the unnamed informant at the House of Representatives, where Ronnie Dayan was scheduled to testify, according to the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption, which put up the reward.

"It is also important to do this publicly so people will know that the VACC stays true to our promise of giving rewards," acording to the group's legal counsel, Ferdinand Topacio.

Topacio said the informant was not related to Dayan.
