Ronnie Dayan, Senator Leila de Lima's former driver and alleged bagman, on Thursday admitted receiving parcels from Kerwin Espinosa, who he believed was an engineer supporting the then-Justice Secretary.
In his four-page affidavit, he said: "Si Kerwin Espinosa, hindi ko nga alam na drug lord nung nag-aabutan kami, ang alam ko dun engineer siya."
He added, he even jibed De Lima about her new Starex van and a Fortuner allegedly given by her "supporters" and an "engineer," respectively.
He also revealed in his affidavit that he received money from Espinosa, guised as packages, which he said he did not open.
Interpellated by Rep. Rodolofo Fariñas in Thursday's probe at the House of Representatives, Dayan recalled meeting Espinosa in Mall of Asia in August 2014 after he was ordered by De Lima to meet with someone in the mall's parking building.
He claimed that he did not open the paper bag, but only felt what it could be from the outside.
Afterwards, he said, he went straight to De Lima's office in the Department of Justice and reported to the Secretary that the package he received was already in the car.
He added, he only handed her the paper bag once they reached the home they shared in Parañaque.
Around this time, their love affair, he said, was already waning to a "Signal Number 1" from the peak of "Signal Number 5."
He continued, his second meeting with Kerwin was in October 2014, in a parking area of a "Dampa" near Mall of Asia in Pasay.
Dayan described the two packages he has received thus far as like a paper bag of a perfume. He said, both were of approximately the same weight.
Like the first time, he said he placed the package under the passenger seat, went back to the DOJ office, reported to De Lima, and handed the package only when they reached home.
He said, they introduced themselves to each other on their second meeting, and in his mind, he thought Kerwin was the engineer De Lima was pertaining to.
Their third meeting meanwhile was in November 2014, still in the fourth floor of the Building A of Mall of Asia.
