Senator Grace Poe on Thursday said it is time to evaluate the Department of Transportation (DoTr), in connection with how it addressed the problems faced by the MRT-3.
“These issues should be properly and expeditiously resolved despite Usec. Cesar Chavez’s resignation and especially considering the commuting horrors our people have to go through everyday,” Poe said in a statement.
Poe said that while she admires Chavez’s delicadeza, she doubts that it is the only reason that prompted him to resign from his post.
“He seemed to be one of the DOTr officials who was determined to fully address all the issues plaguing the MRT. I recall he was instrumental in unearthing the persons involved in anomalies that caused these issues,” she said.
Chavez announced his irrevocable resignation during a press conference, taking up the responsibility for the recent incidents that involved the MRT-3 System. This includes last week’s incidents wherein a woman’s arm was severed in a freak accident at the Ayala Station and when a coach was detached from the rest of the train between Ayala and Buendia Stations, stranding hundreds of passengers.
“Ang desisyon kong ito ay magmula nang maghiwalay ang bagon, tingin ko responsibilidad ko yun. Tingin ko dapat magkaroon ng bagong leader, dapat isang team dito lalung-lalo na sa management. Ang importante ditto, collectively, sa gitna ng krisis maraming dapat executive decisions na nagagawa ng mabilis, ng tama,” he said in an interview on DZMM.
Meanwhile, Poe hopes President Duterte finds someone willing to take up the cudgels that Chavez left behind “in order to finally ensure the safety and convenience of the riding public.”
