MANILA - The low-pressure area (LPA) east of Mindanao has developed into tropical depression "Marce," state weather bureau PAGASA said Wednesday.
In its 5 p.m. weather advisory, PAGASA said Marce was last seen 420 kilometers (kms) east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Norte. It was packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hours (kph) near the center with gusts of up to 55 kph.
Marce was expected to move west northwest at 17 kph, and was expected to be outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Monday afternoon.
Tropical cyclone warning signal no. 1 was hoisted over Southern Leyte, Bohol, Siquijor, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Dinagat Island, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Misamis Oriental and Camiguin.
Winds between 30 to 60 kph were expected in these areas within 36 hours.
Moderate to heavy rainfall was also expected within the 200-km diameter of the tropical depression.
Marce was expected to make landfall over the area of Surigao by Thursday afternoon to early evening.
