MANILA - Two nephews of former Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala were arrested Tuesday in a buy-bust operation in Sariaya, Quezon.
Among those nabbed was high-value target Sajid Alcala, eldest son of the former Agriculture chief's brother, Athel, an alleged top drug trafficker in the province.
Operatives of the Quezon provincial office and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) conducted the sting operation in Barangay Balubal at past 3 a.m.
A poseur-buyer was able to purchase P6,000 worth of drugs from Sajid's group.
Law enforcers then entered the group's hideout where they seized around P100,00 worth of suspected shabu and drug paraphernalia.
Aside from Sajid, authorities also arrested his brother, alias "Red-Red", and four other men.
The operation also yielded four vehicles allegedly used by the suspects to deliver narcotics.
Sajid and Athel surrendered to authorities in August. The elder Alcala was placed under hospital release while his son was released free due to lack of charges. -- Report from Johnny Glorioso, DZMM correspondent
