LANAO DEL NORTE -- A municipal councilor and a former captain of Barangay Barandia in Salvador, Lanao del Norte were arrested last Saturday in a search operation.
Councilor Noaim Radiab and former chairman Madrigal Langitao were arrested with Marogong Radiab, following the execution of a search warrant for illegal possession of firearms issued by Judge Alberto Quinto of Regional Trial Court Branch 21 in Kapatagan, Lanao del Norte.
Police said informants tipped them that the three as well as Abdulwajib Radiab, Minsuari Radiab, Gani Radiab, and Aisah Langitao were involved in the illegal drug trade and owned high-powered firearms.
Confiscated from Madrigal Langitao were a Garand rifle, bandolier, four 9mm Luger pistols, one 9mm pistol, an M14 rifle, assorted magazines and ammunition.
Also found in Radiab's residence was a 45 Colt pistol, accessories and live ammunition for different high-powered firearms.
Radiab allegedly owned an AR-15 assault rifle, one rifle grenade, launcher grenade, Bush Master rifle, Colts M4 and M16.
No illegal drugs were found in their residences.
The rest of the subjects also turned out negative on both drugs and firearms.
The suspects will be charged with illegal possession of firearms. All three refused to comment.
Lanao Norte Police Office Deputy, Senior Superintendent Henry Monta said the suspects claimed to have amassed firearms solely for their protection against clans they are in feud with.
Police confirmed that the suspects do not have criminal records prior the arrest.
Authorities have yet to investigate the suspects' link to criminal groups in the province where they may have bought the firearms.
