ZAMBOANGA CITY - At least two soldiers were killed while another was wounded in an ambush in Barangay Guinicolalay, Dinas, Zamboanga del Sur on Monday morning.
Western Mindanao Command spokesman Major Filemon Tan said soldiers from Bravo Company of the 53rd Infantry Battalion were on board a truck when they were attacked by about 10 armed men.
Tan said a Philippine Army official who led the Bravo company was among those killed in the attack.
The soldiers were about to hold an activity in one of the communities in Dinas when the ambush occurred.
The military has yet to identify the group behind the attack.
Tan however said the incident might be linked to the previous anti-kidnapping operations of the 53rd Infantry Battalion in Zamboanga del Sur, which resulted in the confiscation of some firearms and arrest of some suspected kidnappers.
On November 18, at least four soldiers were also killed after government forces clashed with Abu Sayyaf bandits in Buhanginan, Patikul, Sulu.
A few hours after this incident, the Abu Sayyaf also attacked government forces in Tuburan, Basilan which left a soldier and a militia man wounded.
