MANILA - House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez revealed Monday that he wants Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre to run as senator under the ruling PDP-Laban in the 2019 mid-term elections.

"Susuportahan ko po yung kandidatura ni Vit Aguirre. Kakausapin ko po ang ating Pangulo kung pwede ipahiram muna si Sec. Vit Aguirre sa Senado upang bumilis –bilis naman ang pagpasa ng mga batas doon," Alvarez said in a speech during the anniversary celebration of the National Bureau of Investigation.

(I will support the candidacy of Vit Aguirre. I will convince our President to lend Sec. Vit Aguirre to the Senate so that we could fast track the approval of laws there.)

Alvarez, PDP-Laban's secretary general, noted that only 10 percent of the proposed laws approved by the House get Senate approval.

He earlier announced that PDP-Laban was eyeing Presidential Communications Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson and presidential spokesperson Harry Roque to be its senatorial candidates.

Also being considered were Karlo Nograles, Geraldine Roman, and Albee Benitez, and former Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Chair Francis Tolentino.

PDP-Laban leaders, Alvarez said, will finalize their Senate slate. With Robert Mano, ABS-CBN News
