ILIGAN CITY - Some 200 families fled to an evacuation center here as the military pursued suspected communist rebels.

The evacuees had been staying at a covered court in Barangay Rogongon for 8 days.

Troops are pursuing an armed group believed to be members of the New People's Army along the boundary of Iligan and Talakag, Bukidnon.

Last week, a soldier was killed and another was wounded when they unknowingly passed by the armed group's checkpoint.

Residents say they weren't able to bring much of their belongings with them to the evacuation center.

ABS-CBN's Lingkod Kapamilya distributed food items to the evacuees last Saturday.
