MANILA - Imeldific, but reasonable. This was how Albay 2nd District Representative Joey Salceda described the cauldron that would be used for the torch-lighting ceremony of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, which a lawmaker earlier said was extravagant.
"Yung P55 million pag tiningnan mo 'yung cauldron mukhang resonable naman kaso 'imeldific' yung dating, may grandiosity," Salceda said on ANC's Headstart.
On Monday, Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon said the P55 million cost of the cauldron could have been used to build 56 classrooms.
The cauldron's design comes up to P4.4 million, while P32 million was allotted for its construction.
Salceda explained that the cost of the cauldron might not be too excessive.
"Imeldific, yes. But I think it is only proportional to the new and bolder character of the Filipino as coming of age and breaking into the field of emerging tigers," he said.
The opening of the SEA Games will be on November 30, 2019 at the Philippine Arena.
