MANILA - Presidential Peace Adviser Jesus Dureza said he and Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo will seek an informal meeting with consultants of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines next week.
In a statement Sunday, Dureza said President Rodrigo Duterte ordered them to meet chief negotiator Fidel Agcaoili and his colleague Luis Jalandoni in Manila.
"President Duterte has tasked me and Secretary Salvador Panelo to meet with them in an informal chat. I am now on my way to head the Philippine delegation to the United Nations General Assembly in New York so the planned meeting may take place next upon my return next week," he said.
Agcaoili, who requested to see the President, earlier confirmed that he and Jalandoni will return to the Philippines this month despite the threat of possible arrest.
Peace talks between the government and the NDFP broke down last year due to alleged continuing rebel attacks on state troops.
Duterte himself had threatened to arrest the communists' consultants after the talks broke down. He even moved to declare the NDF's armed wing and political arm as terrorist organizations.
