DATU PIANG, Maguindanao – An explosion rocked the campus of the Gani L. Abpi College in Barangay Buayan here, Friday night.
Police recovered shrapnel from an M-79 grenade near the fence of the campus, which is about 100 meters away from the school’s covered court.
According to investigators, a group of students was having a team-building activity at the covered court and was practicing for a street dance competition before the explosion happened. The students were unharmed as they had gone inside a classroom to have dinner when the explosion took place.
No casualties were reported.
Datu Piang Chief of Police Chief Inspector Cesar Ibal said they suspect people who might have been irked by noise coming from the campus could be behind the attack.
The school administrator said that everything has returned to “normal” following the incident.
Dance rehearsals will be scheduled earlier in the day in compliance with the local police's advice for the school to conduct activities at daytime to avoid disturbing nearby residents, the school official said.
