Senator Grace Poe, chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Services, said that Department of Transportation (DOTr) is asking for an P8-trillion budget to fund its solutions to end the traffic crisis in major Philippine cities.
“Of course yung Metro Manila po ang kanilang tinututukan pero kasama na diyan sa hinihingi nila yung ibang lugar sa Pilipinas kasama na dyan yung Metro Cebu at Metro Davao,” Poe said in an interview on DZMM on Friday morning.
Poe said they are still carefully studying the need to grant emergency powers to the government to solve the traffic problems.
“Kaya lang medyo kailangan pagaralan ng mabuti kung saan talaga mayroong problema na kailangan at hindi naman dapat sa lahat ng lugar,” she said.
Poe also pointed out that the emergency powers should not cover the problems with the lack of plate numbers and driver’s license.
“Hindi naman talaga kailangan ng emergency powers doon,” she said.
The senator hopes to submit the committee report to the Senate Plenary before Christmas.
