MANILA -- Vice President Leni Robredo on Saturday said illegal drugs are "one of the big problems" in her home province of Bicol.

Robredo, co-chair of the inter-agency committee on anti-illegal drugs, cited information from when she served as chairman of the police's regional advisory board during her time in Congress.

"Isa talaga iyong drugs sa mga malalaking problema. Lalo iyong Naga, Legazpi, kasi ito iyong mga transshipment, iyong malalaking cities dito, malaki iyong problema," she told reporters in Naga City.

(Illegal drugs is really one of the big problems. Especially in Naga, Legazpi, the area of transshipment. These are big cities so this is where the problem is huge.)

The Vice President said she would like to get an update now that she's ICAD co-chair.

"Ang hindi ko lang alam kung after the campaign, lumaki pa ba o lumiit na, kasi I was not part of the campaign. Ano lang ako, outsider looking in." she said.

(What I don't know is if it became bigger or smaller after the campaign because I was not part of it. I was an outsider looking in.)

"Pero ngayon na kabahagi na ako, iyon iyong gusto kong malaman. Gusto kong malaman kumusta siya after 3 and a half years."

(Now that I'm part of it, that's what I want to know. I would like to know how it is doing after 3 and a half years.)

President Rodrigo Duterte earlier claimed that Robredo's bailiwick Naga City was a "hotbed of shabu."

The Vice President said the claim was a "huge insult" and called for an investigation, while the city government expressed outcry.
