Alleged drug lord Kerwin Espinosa fears police will kill him just like they did his father Albuera Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr. the moment he returns to the Philippines, former whistleblower Sandra Cam said Thursday.
"Kaya nga siya nanginginig dahil mga pulis ang pumatay sa kanyang ama sa loob ng kulungan. At yun ang fear niya, na pulis din ang dadali sa kanya," Cam told ABS-CBN News in an exclusive interview.
[He's so afraid because police killed his father inside his cell. So that's his fear, that police would do the same thing to him.]
Cam, who is also president of the Whistleblowers Association of the Philippines, was reportedly instrumental in locating Kerwin.
Mayor Espinosa was killed last November 5 inside the Baybay City Provincial Jail in Leyte after supposedly firing at cops who were trying to serve him a search warrant.
But several critics have poked holes at the police's account, saying it smelled of a rubout. Mayor Espinosa had reportedly implicated several personalities in the illegal drug trade.
Kerwin, who is also expected to name drug personalities once he is extradited from Abu Dhabi, fears the same fate. The father and son were named by President Rodrigo Duterte as among those involved in the illegal trade.
"Marami na siyang pinangalanan, actually malalaking tao talaga ang pinangalanan niya," said Cam, although saying she doesn't want to preempt Kerwin's affidavit and the police's investigation.
[He has already named a lot of people, really big people.]
Kerwin's partner, Rhoda Magale, meanwhile told him to stay strong.
"Huwag siya mawawalan ng pag-asa, nandito lang kami. Sana safe siya," she told Cam.
[I hope he doesn't lose hope. We're just here for him. I hope he stays safe.]
