MANILA – Senator Joseph Victor Ejercito on Wednesday was spotted at a gathering of members of the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino - Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) of President Rodrigo Duterte, fueling talks that he will soon leave his party.
Ejercito, a member of former Vice President Jejomar Binay’s United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), attended PDP-Laban’s thanksgiving party in Pasay City.
A statement from the office of House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez, PDP-Laban’s secretary-general, said Ejercito “has acknowledged that he is considering the invitation of Pres. Duterte to join PDP.”
Alvarez said last evening’s gathering was “meant to celebrate and give thanks for the party’s successful bid in the last polls that led to the election of President Rodrigo Duterte and present an opportunity to meet new members.”
The House Speaker said the party will soon work on fortifying its ranks so it can present a full slate in the 2019 mid-term polls.
He said as soon as 2017 begins, the party will undergo reorganization and a national assembly will be held to ratify its constitution and by-laws.
“At dito po ay gagawin po natin ay magkakaroon ng miyembro ang PDP-Laban hanggang sa barangay level. Kaya po sa susunod na election sa 2019, kukumpletuhin po natin ang ticket ng PDP magmula sa senador, congressman, gobernador, mayor, at lahat po ng opisyales sa local government,” said Alvarez.
