COMPOSTELA VALLEY - A former member of the New People's Army (NPA) was shot dead Thursday in Monkayo, Compostela Valley, police said.
Ruel Matias Labrador, 50, was homebound on board his motorcycle when an unidentified man also on board a motorcycle shot him at gunpoint, according to police.
"Sinundan ito dahil ang nakakita initially nasa likod so maya-maya natabihan siya binaril siya," said Chief Inspector Jerry Abrogina, who heads the Monkayo police.
[This person was followed because a witness said the gunman was initially behind the victim and then went to his side to shoot him.]
Labrador used to be an NPA member but surrendered to authorities. He later became a bodyguard of a politician, said his sister Mirajean Rupita.
"Dati nagbody guard mana siya sa naglansad sa eleksyon, wala lang ko kabalo kinsa ang iyang amo," she said.
[He was the bodyguard of a candidate in the last election, but I do not know who his boss was.]
Recovered from the victim were live ammunition, a caliber .45 pistol, cellphones and cash.
The police have yet to determine the motive on the killing.
