NEGROS ORIENTAL - A construction worker in Negros Oriental was arrested after admitting to killing his 60-year-old father with an ax on Sunday, police said Wednesday.
Gene Ambos, who is being detained at the Santa Catalina Police Station, told authorities that he killed his father Woodrow Ambos in their home in Barangay Poblacion.
Gene said he arrived home from work to find his father drunk and going wild, making him resort to violence.
His mother, Hendrita, said her son should be held accountable for what he did to his father.
Police officer Eliezer Enriquez said they are looking into a possible grudge the suspect had towards his father as a motive for the killing. The victim was often under the influence of alcohol, according to police.
"In our investigation so far, this suspect is not in our drugs watchlist and he also has no criminal record in this office," said Enriquez.
Gene will be charged with parricide and will be transferred to Bayawan City Jail this month.
