BUTUAN CITY - Two men were wounded after unidentified gunmen fired shots at a drinking party in Butuan City on Tuesday evening.

The shooters, who were riding in tandem, were reportedly targeting Romeo Palen a.k.a. "Patok," whom they fired at directly.

Another victim, Ian Mantilla, was struck by a stray bullet on his upper left abdomen.

"Sumala sa mga witnesses na atong nahinabi, katulo kuno nibalik ang motor, sa katulo na panahon diha naghunong kalit lang gipusil ang biktima," said Butuan City Police Station 1 Chief of Police Senior Inspector Agustin Navarro.

[According to the witnesses, the riding in tandem returned three times. On the third time, they stopped and fired at the victim.]

The gunmen fled to an unknown direction on board a black motorcycle after the incident, police said.

Witnesses couldn't describe the facial features of the shooters since they were wearing bull caps.

Recovered from the crime scene were five empty shells of a caliber .45 firearm.

Navarro said Palen surrendered under the government's Oplan Tokhang but was still reportedly engaged in illegal drug transactions.

This is the eight drug-related case in their vicinity since July, he said.
