MANILA—Eight soldiers were wounded in a firefight with terrorist group Abu Sayyaf in Patikul town, Sulu, Wednesday morning, the military said.
Government troops from Joint Task Force Sulu encountered the rebels led by Hatib Hajan Sawadjaan and Radullan Sahiron in Barangay Buhanginan.
The wounded soldiers were rushed to Camp Teodulfo Bautista Station Hospital in Barangay Bus-Bus, Jolo.
The Abu Sayyaf, the military said, also suffered an undetermined number of casualties.
Meanwhile, 2 Abu Sayyaf members surrendered to authorities in Imelda town, Zamboanga Sibugay, Thursday morning.
They were under the authority of Sibih Pisih, a leader of the terrorist group, said Lt. Col. Don Templonuevo, commander of the 44th Infantry Battalion.
The bandits also turned over 2 Garand rifles.
