MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit in Manila on Monday to discuss how to deepen ties between the two nations.

Duterte said he would like to further strengthen the Philippines' bilateral relations with India on trade and culture.

He also urged Modi to explore business opportunities in the Philippines, especially on affordable medicines amid India's flourishing generics industry.

During the meeting, both nations signed a memorandum of understanding on defense, agriculture, foreign services, and cooperation in the field of micro, small, and medium enterprises. - with a report from Dexter Ganibe, ABS-CBN News
