MANILA - A Colombian national was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport for allegedly attempting to smuggle P8.89 million worth of cocaine into the Philippines.
Members of the NAIA Drug Interdiction Task Group said the Colombian national, identified as Pedraza Quijano, swallowed 79 rubber pellets filled with a substance believed to be cocaine.
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency said they received information on Quijano from US Homeland Security.
Airport police waited for Quijano to arrive at the NAIA Terminal 3 and accosted him when he arrived.
Quijano was brought to Pasay General Hospital to undergo an X-ray procedure where the medical staff found rubber pellets in his stomach.
PDEA said, it took Quijano more than 24 hours to excrete the rubber pellets.
The pellets will be brought to a laboratory for examination, while Quijano will undergo a drug test.
