MANILA - The Department of Health welcomed Monday the Food and Drug Administration's re-certification of 51 contraceptives that are deemed non-abortifacient, meaning they cannot cause abortion.
The FDA re-certification was done in compliance with the Supreme Court ruling that orders the government agency to determine abortifacient or non-abortifacient properties of the contraceptives.
The Commission on Population said this effectively lifts the high court's temporary restraining order on two controversial hormonal implants, Implanon and Implanon NXT, which FDA deems safe.
The FDA re-certification also paves the way for the full and strict implementation of the Reproductive Health law, said Health Secretary Francisco Duque III.
"We assure everyone that the full and strict implementation of the RH law which President Duterte ordered earlier this year will be fair, even handed and not adversely affect our people's health," he said.--report from Kori Quintos, ABS-CBN News
