The health of President Rodrigo Duterte is in sharp focus. Here are the stories making the headlines on ANC today:

The ANC Brief: A break, a leave or a rest 1

Health and well-being
In a press briefing, presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo said Duterte would take a 3-day rest upon the advice of friends and doctors. Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea would be caretaker. But later, Panelo said Duterte would not be resting but would attend to paperwork at his home in Davao CIty. Either way, this is all an indication that the job might be taking a toll on the 74-year-old Chief Executive. As with all heads of state, his health and well-being is a national concern.

Scrutinizing the budget
Sen. Ping Lacson and House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano are still crossing swords over the issue of “pork” in the 2020 budget. Lacson has been saying there are funds suspiciously "parked" in the budget. Cayetano denies the claim. The budget is up for deliberations at the Senate today. Senators said they would work to get a reconciled version approved before their Christmas break.

Talk is cheap
Speaking of Cayetano, he lobbed a potshot at Vice President Leni Robredo and said her joining the war on drugs had been “all talk.” Robredo’s camp told Cayetano to shut up if he could not help fight drugs. It's the same retort thrown at Robredo when she was criticizing the war on drugs.

Martial law in Mindanao
Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana has thumbed down another extension of martial law in Mindanao. The Palace said it would consider Lorenzana’s comment on the issue.

Room with a view
A restaurant in the mountain, Balay sa Busay serves Filipino dishes with an inventive take. And, as ANCX finds out, this Queen City of the South favorite has an awesome view of Cebu and Mactan.
