MANILA - Senator Ronald Dela Rosa on Tuesday said the deaths of two cadets of the Philippine Military Academy are separate unfortunate incidents.

"Minalas lang, they are 2 separate incidents. Yung isa hazing, ito namang death sa swimming pool kapabayaan ng mga instructor," Dela Rosa said on ANC's Headstart

Cadet fourth class Mario Telan Jr. was found dead in the campus pool on Friday, an hour after a swimming exercise, the PMA earlier said. The incident happened nearly 2 months after the death of another cadet officer, Darwin Dormitorio, due to alleged hazing.

Protocol mandates a headcount of students before and after each activity, but a cadet assigned to monitor his peers' whereabouts for that day failed to do this and report to instructors.

The police ruled out foul play in Telan's death. But Dela Rosa said his instructors should be held responsible for his death.

"Bakit yung kadete, non swimmer, napabayaan doon na lumubog na pala hindi nila na-account so negligence 'yan on the part of the instructors bakit napabayaan 'yun," Dela Rosa said.

"They should be accountable for their actions...may namatay. 'Pag may namatay, may mananagot," he added.
