MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte on Sunday again met with Brunei’s Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, as the two Southeast Asian nations seek to enhance their relations.
Duterte and Bolkiah met at the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in Manila, where leaders of 8 other ASEAN member-states and their dialogue partners meet to discuss regional issues.
In their meeting, Duterte told Bolkiah he was thankful for his attendance at the ASEAN Summit and his efforts to strengthen bilateral nations between their nations.
The President also thanked Bolkiah for his “extraordinary service to humanity.”
“Thank you also for your help during moments of sadness and disaster in the Philippines,” Duterte told Bolkiah.
Duterte was in Brunei last month to attend the 50th anniversary of Bolkiah’s accession to the throne.
Bolkiah had been to the Philippines several times. He was in the Philippines last April for a state visit.
