MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday said he will give the local government of Palawan and its energy cooperative until the end of the year to resolve frequent power disruptions in the province.
"Yung inyong ilaw dito, at this late of the day of development in the country, may brownout kayo na 6 to 8 hours. That is not acceptable to me," Duterte said in a speech in Puerto Princesa, Palawan.
"On the extreme, maybe I will just give you guys, walang personalan 'to. Trabaho lang. I’ll give you about towards the end of the year a new set up that could provide enough energy to run a place and so that it can develop, operate and it can move. Kailangan you have to upgrade your source of energy," he added.
Duterte said he will get a new electricity operator for the province should officials fail to meet his deadline.
"Kasi kapag hindi, ang gawain ko, maghanap ako ng may pera talaga, China nangangati ang kamay niyan eh just to get hold of developments here. I will expropriate your franchise. Bilihin ko yan at an evaluation that is fair, just compensation, to end this almost an impasse," he said.
"I’d like to talk to the governor and si mayor, mag-usap tayo, magkape lang tayo sir sa opisina ko. Pagusapan natin 'to, because di ko maano na hanggang ngayon, at this age, mayroong electricity tapos napuputol."
Duterte even jested that he could not see the beautiful women of Palawan under dim lights.
"Kaya pala ang changing scenery ang Palawan, pag may energy, under ng mga makina, gumaganda 'yung mga babae, may ilaw eh, nakapulbo. Kaya pala nung last time pagpunta ko dito medyo madilim, wala akong makitang maganda. Marami naman pala, may mga tisay din dito," he said.
