MANILA—Typhoon Quiel maintained its strength as it was about to leave the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) Friday night, state weather agency PAGASA said.
The eye of the weather disturbance was last seen 535 kilometers west of Coron, Palawan, PAGASA said in its 11 p.m. bulletin.
Quiel was forecast to exit PAR between 11 p.m. Friday and 2 a.m. Saturday and will head towards Vietnam, the agency added.
It is packing maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gusts of up to 150 kph.
The typhoon will still bring moderate with occasional heavy rains over Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Isabela, Apayao and Ilocos Norte.
Sea travel remains risky, especially for small sea vessels, over the seaboards of northern Luzon and the western seaboards of Central and southern Luzon due to rough sea conditions.
