MANILA- Typhoon Quiel left the Philippine area of responsibility at 5 a.m. Saturday, state weather bureau PAGASA said, just as a new low pressure area was seen off Mindanao.

The weather disturbance with international name Nakri was last seen 590 kilometers west of Coron, Palawan, weather specialist Meno Mendoza said.

Quiel is heading towards Vietnam, packing maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gusts of up to 150 kph.

Meanwhile, PAGASA is monitoring a new low-pressure area (LPA) spotted 1,835 kilometers east of Mindanao.

It is not yet directly affecting any part of the country, Mendoza said.

The tail-end of a cold front or the interaction of cold air and warm air in the Pacific Ocean, which is affecting northern Luzon, will bring scattered rains over Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region and Cagayan Valley.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rains due to localized thunderstorms.
