MANILA- Colleagues of Senator Gringo Honasan in the Senate wished him luck Friday as he takes on the responsibility of the secretary of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).
Honasan on Friday accepted President Rodrigo Duterte's offer to name him as head of the DICT, replacing current officer-in-charge Eliseo Rio.
Several senators wished the former military official good luck as he takes on the new role.
"We wish him all the best in his new job. I will particularly miss him being my perennial and automatic quorum buddy in all my committee hearings and vise versa," Senator Panfilo Lacson said.
Senators Grace Poe and Bam Aquino meanwhile expressed hopes that Honasan would further the country's technological advances with his new post.
"We look forward to working with him to strengthen the ICT sector in the Philippines and improve access to quality and affordable internet services for more Filipinos," Aquino said.
"We need someone like Senator Honasan at the helm of the DICT who is dedicated and efficient, and who will insure that our country will be able to modernize and make technological advances that can support growth and development," Poe said.
Poe added that Honasan's entry to the DICT comes at a "critical time" after the department named Mislatel as the country's provisional third telco player.
"His appointment can help allay fears surrounding national security as I know him to be a cautious and patriotic guy who would put the country above everything else," she said.
Senators Sonny Angara and JV Ejercito meanwhile took to social media to wish Honasan the best of luck in his new post.
"Congratulations and Godspeed to our colleague Now Sec. @gringo_honasan !!" Angara said in a tweet.
"Good luck and Godspeed Sir Greg!" Ejercito said in a tweet as well.
