MANILA – Not one bullet but a whole box of ammunition was found inside the bag of an elderly Filipino-American passenger in transit at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
Rondaris Rufino, 79, was arrested at the airport for concealing in his hand carried bag a box of imported live .25 caliber ammunition.
Rufino was a transient passenger of Philippine Airlines flight PR 103 from Los Angeles to Laoag, Ilocos Sur when intercepted by security screeners at NAIA Terminal 2.
"Nakita ko po na may suspicious image sa monitor ng x-ray kaya po pina-identify namin kung sino ang may ari at doon po namin nakita ang isang kahon ng bala," said Airport Security Screener Dominique Halog.
For his part, Rufino denied owning the box of bullets. He also does not know how the box ended up inside his hand carried luggage.
It was learned that Rufino arrived on the same flight as Senator Manny Pacquiao and Philippine National Police Chief Ronald dela Rosa from Los Angeles. Footage from a CCTV also revealed that the Fil-Am arrived alone and nobody approached him upon arrival and prior to boarding his connecting flight to Laoag.
