KALAMANSIG – More than 4,000 families were affected by flooding in Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat.
Seven barangays were affected, including Cadiz, Sta. Maria, Limulan, Hinalaan, Obial, Sabanal, and Datu Wasay, said Ernie Quillo of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO).
The flood destroyed about 22 houses and partially damaged 28 residences. Seventy-eight families were evacuated to Hinalaan, and stayed in the barangay’s day care center, barangay hall and health center.
Crops and rubber trees were ruined and electric posts were also toppled by flood water, which had been rising due to continuous rains since November 4.
According to Quillo, the rain stopped on Monday and they tried to reach other affected barangays.
They were also unable to reach about 578 families in Barangay Hinalaan because of a damaged road.
Clearing operations in Barangays Liluman and Obial were ongoing as of this writing.
Some private construction firms also volunteered for road repairs.
The MDRRMO is in the process of consolidating all reports to determine the value of agricultural and infrastructural damage incurred due to the flood.
