MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday conferred the Order of Lapu-Lapu on a Caloocan policeman who was able to subdue a knife-wielding man in the city last September 17.

Duterte awarded PO1 Ronald Anicete with the Kampilan Medal, which is being given to individuals who were seriously wounded or suffered great loss of property as a result of their participation in activity pursuant to a campaign or advocacy of the President.

Anicete was stabbed repeatedly by Cesar Ariola in Barangay 146, Bagong Barrio, Caloocan last September 17 after responding to a call for help by barangay officials to subdue the knife-wielding man.

The newbie cop shot dead Ariola.

Duterte has repeatedly called on the police to only use force against suspects when their lives are already in danger.

The police have been accused of killing helpless drug suspects. Critics say Duterte’s promise of protecting the cops against criminal prosecution at all cost have emboldened “scalawags” in the police force to abuse their authority.
