MANILA - Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade on Monday warned officials and employees of the agency against accepting gifts during the Christmas season to avoid conflict of interest.

Tugade said public officials should not accept gifts of any kind from any other individual or organization to uphold the department’s high standard of ethics in public service.

"Bawal mag-solicit o tumanggap ng regalo. Kusa niyong layuan ang lahat ng klaseng regalo kahit pa ito ay kusang ibinigay sa inyo,” Tugade said.

(Soliciting or accepting gifts are prohibited. Stay away from gifts even if given voluntarily.)

Tugade said he will be "unforgiving" to officials or employees who will receive or solicit gifts.

“I have a way of knowing it," he said.

Tugade's warnings are in line with President Rodrigo Duterte’s anti-corruption directive among government offices.
