MANILA (UPDATED) - The head of the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday promised to the family of a 14-year-old that motorcycle-riding gunmen behind his fatal shooting will be brought to justice.

The teen was walking with another minor last Friday when he was shot dead by 2 riding-in-tandem assailants in Barangay Calzada-Tipas, Taguig.

The victim's mother admitted that her son used marijuana and had been under drug rehabilitation for months.

"I am directing everyone to investigate, lalo na at bata yan. Kailangan i-solve natin yan. We are assuring the family that we will investigate the case," PNP chief Director General Ronald Dela Rosa said in a press briefing.

Dela Rosa however urged the public to look at the bigger picture of riding-in-tandem shootings.

"Kapag mayroon nangyari dito sa munisipyo, sabay-sabay, hindi napapansin, pero ngayon na 1 lang, napapansin agad. Isa lang yan, so bakit ka mag-maximize sa isang nangyari, bakit hindi mo i-maximize yung 99% sa kabuuan?" Dela Rosa said.

The PNP has vowed to focus on crimes by motorcycle-riding gunmen after President Rodrigo Duterte put cops in the backseat of his anti-narcotics crackdown.
