MANILA – The bodies of alleged "narco-politician" Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr. and inmate Raul Yap were taken out of Baybay City to two separate locations on Saturday evening.
Espinosa’s body was taken to a funeral parlor in Ormoc City, while Yap was brought home to his family in Albuera, where his body will lie in state.
Yap’s wife Alma earlier expressed doubts regarding the police’s story that Espinosa and her husband, supposedly the leader of inmates at the sub-provincial jail in Baybay, were killed after they shot at law enforcers who tried to serve arrest warrants.
Officials, meanwhile, are not certain as of this writing whether Espinosa’s son Kerwin, who is imprisoned in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), has been informed of his father’s death.
According to Constancio Vingno Jr., Philippine Ambassador to the UAE, they will try to visit him on Sunday, as Saturday is a rest day in the Middle Eastern country.
“Sunday ang simula ng office hours (Office hours start on Sunday). Tomorrow we'll try to have access to inform him,” Vingno said.
The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has ordered the Philippine National Police (PNP) to look into the deaths.
PNP chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa promised that there will be no cover-ups in their investigation.
