MANILA - Combined military and police troops arrested a suspected member of Daulah Islamiya (DI) in Calamba City, Laguna on Friday.
Authorities identified the suspected terrorist as Bobby Cabugatan Sarip. He is allegedly Daulah Islamiya's media wing propagator and finance facilitator in Laguna and Batangas.
Authorities found an improvised explosive device (IED) and two hand grenades in his possession.
Col. Alex Rillera, commander of the 202nd Brigade, said Sarip has been the subject of counter-terrorist surveillance operations.
Sarip has been brought to the Police Regional Office 4A in Canlubang for the filing of appropriate charges.
Brig. Gen. Arnulfo Marcelo Burgos Jr., commander of the Army’s 2nd Infantry Division, congratulated the troops for their successful operation.
He said authorities are conducting intelligence and military operations even during holidays.
