MANILA - Four streets in Barangay Bangkal, Makati reopened Sunday after a suspected gas leak prompted authorities to bar motorists from the area last week.

Evangelista, Estrella, Heneral Luna and Heneral Macabulos streets were closed on Wednesday due to residents' complaint of a foul odor from a Phoenix petroleum gas station.

The Bureau of Fire Protection recommended the roads' reopening after the area registered a zero explosivity level, which means that it is safe from any threat of gas explosion.
Roadblocks have been removed from the area, allowing motorists to pass through, including the customers of several autoparts businesses there.

The Phoenix gas station in Estrella Street, however, remains closed, pending the results of third-party tests to determine the source of the suspected gas leak.

The foul odor in the area is almost gone. Residents and business owners can now use their burners for cooking.

The public, however, is still barred from smoking in the area, said the Bureau of Fire Protection.
