MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday lashed out again at US President Barack Obama, telling the latter to look for the meaning of “dignity” in the dictionary as he slammed America's supposed threats to withhold aid to the Philippines.
Duterte has been railing at the US over criticisms on his war on drugs, which has claimed over 2,000 lives since he won the elections.
The tough-talking leader said he felt as if he was being treated by the Americans like a dog on a leash with their supposed threat to withhold US aid due to human rights concerns.
“’Pag tingin niyo sa aming mga Pilipino, parang aso. I’m being depicted in your criticism as a dog tied to a leash at magbigay kayo ng pan ilalagay niyo sa malayo,” Duterte said.
(You see us Filipinos like a dog. I’m being depicted in your criticism as a dog tied to a leash and you put out bread and put it far from me.)
“You violated our dignity as a Filipino people. Mr. Obama… get your dictionary, find out the right meaning of dignity. Huwag niyo kaming ilagay na parang aso na matakot ako na mawalan ng aid.”
(You violated our dignity as a Filipino people. Mr Obama… get your dictionary, find out the right meaning of dignity. Don’t treat us like dogs who get scared by threats of aid withdrawal.)
