MANILA - Three Chinese men were arrested here Thursday for the alleged kidnapping of another Chinese man, police said.
The suspects identified as Qui Xia Lin, Lu Wen Wen, and Sun Hoa Tian were nabbed in Sta. Ana, Manila for the abduction of Li Jun, who was able to escape and sought assistance from the police, authorities said.
On Friday, police arrested 8 suspected Chinese members of a loan shark syndicate and their Filipino driver for allegedly attempting to abduct a man at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
The Philippines has seen a spike in the arrival of Chinese tourists and workers since President Rodrigo Duterte came to power in mid-2016 and immediately set about warming relations with Beijing.
The influx has had a mixed impact in the Philippines, with authorities suspecting many of the arrivals are working illegally in the online gambling industry.
